95th WFU Annual State Convention

December 12, 2025 12:00 PM - December 14, 2025 12:00 PM (CST)

Description

Ninety-five years ago, our founders knew family farms were worth fighting for. They gathered in solidarity to set policy that would improve life on their family farms and in their communities. We'll continue that legacy as we celebrate Wisconsin Farmers Union's 95th convention.

You can find more information and deadlines on our WFU Convention Page here: https://www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com/convention

Program Overview

FRIDAY, December 12, 2025

11:00 AM | Groundswell registration opens

12:00 PM - 4:30 PM | Groundswell: Building Community and Making Change – Resourcing yourself & your network for effective action

  • WFU members care deeply about our farms, our communities and the world we live in. With the many demands on our time and attention, organizing for change can feel like both the most important thing on your to-do list, and the least attainable. At Groundswell 2025 we will learn from each other’s’ experience in scoping, designing and building momentum for collective actions in Wisconsin and gain a clearer understanding of resources and pathways for impact across the WFU network. We’ll boost energy and shared purpose through some new ways of thinking about, adapting to, and supporting each other through the ebbs and flows of organizing work. Whether you have decades of experience, or are brand new to WFU, this session will grow participants’ capacity as grassroots leaders and as a network of trusted collaborators in the work of envisioning and building our collective future.

4:30 PM - 7:30 PM | Convention registration opens

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM | Dinner

7:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Fundraiser

SATURDAY, December 13, 2025

7:30 AM | Convention Registration open

9:00 AM | Convention Opens with Official Meeting

11:00 AM | Morning Workshops

  • Workshop A: Navigating Today’s Ag Policy Crosswinds
    • From Farm Bill gridlock to shifting trade winds, it’s been a turbulent year for farmers and ranchers navigating the nation’s agricultural policy landscape. In this timely session, National Farmers Union will offer an inside look at the key policy fronts that shaped 2025, from the stalled Farm Bill and threats to SNAP and local food funding, to the impacts of beef imports, soybean tariffs, and other global market forces. Attendees will gain a clear sense of where NFU has been fighting for family farmers this year and what might be on the horizon for 2026. The session will conclude with an open conversation, inviting your thoughts and questions on how these issues are affecting Wisconsin farmers.
  • Workshop B: Supporting Farmer Wellness in Challenging Times
    • Farming is a calling rooted in resilience but even the strongest among us face seasons of stress and uncertainty. This workshop invites an open, down-to-earth conversation about mental health in agriculture and the importance of caring for ourselves and one another. Hear stories and insights from farmers and learn about resources from the Farmer Wellness Program and the Farmer Angel Network. We will explore the realities behind rural stress and strategies for building a culture of support. From recognizing the early signs of burnout to knowing where to turn for help, participants will walk away with tools, resources, and renewed hope for tending not just the land, but the people who keep it thriving.

12:15 PM | Awards Luncheon

1:15 PM | Afternoon Workshops

  • Workshop A: Small Grains, Big Possibilities
    • Small grains represent a huge opportunity for farmers of all sizes in order to diversify their rotations and market access options while also protecting water quality and economic resilience. Our panel will speak on their experience farming small grains, researching markets, and hurdles they’ve jumped to add new crops like rye, barley, oats, wheat, and Kernza.
  • Workshop B: Value-added Revenue for Farmers - Agricultural Tourism
    • Hundreds of farmers welcome visitors to their land each year, adding an important revenue stream to their operations. Many more are considering agricultural tourism but aren’t sure where to start—from planning events and setting pricing to managing insurance, liability, marketing, zoning, and even overnight accommodations. This session will provide practical guidance from experienced farmers and agricultural tourism professionals.
